Vidin State Philharmonic Orchestra has for decades been a leading cultural institution in the town of Vidin and the Vidin region. Vidin is located in the northernmost part of North-Western Bulgaria right on the bank of the Danube River. It is a town of rich historical-cultural heritage and musical traditions.
The Vidin State Philharmonic Orchestra was officially registered as a state organization on April 28, 1949 though the first steps towards its creation date back in the early 1910. The years following its establishment are characterized with gradual professional improvement and participation in many music events.
The Vidin State Philharmonic Orchestra’s range of activities covers the following areas:
Organizing various music events in the town of Vidin and the Vidin Region such as festivals, music competitions, anniversary concerts, charity concerts and performances. Some of the most important initiatives in the history of the orchestra are VI International Competition “Music and Earth”, “Konstantin Iliev” Music Festivities (unique for Bulgaria), annual concerts on the occasion of the International Day of Music;
Organizing and participation in international activities:
tours in the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Yugoslavia and Spain; annual international master classes for conductors; participation in the Viennese International Master Classes for conductors;
Many famous Bulgarian musicians – brilliant conductors and soloist among whom Konstantin Iliev, Pancho Vladigerov, Vassil Kazandzhiev, Dobrin Petkov, Jordan Daffov, Georgi Robev, Stoyka Milanova – have worked with the orchestra throughout the years. A number of foreign masters – Knusevitzki, Igor Oystrah, Rodendor Romero, Kyiko Tanaka, Arnoldo Estella, Michael Bussinot and many others whose names are well-known in the musical world, have also had the pleasure to perform with the Vidin State Philharmonic Orchestra
